The kids love to see their school friends, enjoy pizza, and play some games, but their biggest thrill comes from seeing their teachers outside of the classroom! Everyone is welcome to attend any Dine Out Night, but we divide the teachers' schedules across the grade levels. Round Table Pizza gives a percentage of the PCY sales right back to our school!

It is sure to be treasured for years to come.

We encourage families to enter multiple recipes, and we will try to include at least one recipe from each family. Submission does NOT guarantee entry into the finished book. EVERY member of the PCY community is encouraged to submit recipes, from kinders to teachers to grandparents! Pictures, photos and artwork can be sent via email to CougarsInTheKitchen@gmail.com. If your recipe is handwritten, you can leave a copy in the basket in the PCY front office with the Chef's Name and Recipe Title.

Family Reading Night is always one of the best and most enjoyable nights of the year! Twice each year, an author/illustrator comes to PCY to read from and talk about their books. The kids come dressed in their pajamas, cuddle up on a blanket with their family and friends, and listen to authors or illustrators. The author/illustrator shares a bit about the process of writing or illustrating and then reads from one or two of his or her books. Afterwards the children can enjoy snacks and milk before going home to bed. These nights may inspire many budding authors and illustrators! Mark your calendar:

Junior Great Books

Chair:

2015-2016 School Year

Junior Great Books is a nationwide organization, which began in 1947. At PCY, we have enjoyed this program since the 1970s and are currently the only school in the district that continues to use and benefit from it. Run by volunteers, the mission of JGB is to advance critical and reflective thinking skills. Through a process called shared inquiry, we strive to improve reading comprehension and critical thinking abilities. Children learn to delve deep into literature and listen to varying points of view. Sometimes they agree to disagree. Often they discover that after a discussion and hearing what others have to say, they've changed their own opinion and point of view. The skills learned in JGB will better prepare our students as they move forward to high school and beyond. We have often been told by teachers that they recognize a student who was taught at PCY simply by the additional skills they acquired through JGB!
