Dear PCY Family,

This week begins the School Supply Box Sale. Instead of scouring the isles for that last supply item, you can pre-order your entire school supply list through the PTA. Simply visit the PCYPTA.ORG website and click in the school supply link and order away. All your child's supplies will be delivered in August-easy!

One of the reasons our school is so wonderful is due to the many volunteers we have throughout the year. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, we would LOVE to have your help! Big or small, there is a job for you! If you have any interest, please email me at president@pcypta.org and I will help find a job that  fits into your schedule! Many thanks in advance!

Have a wonderful week in Paradise!

Warmest Regards,
Valerie Talbert

School Supply Box Sale Begins Today!
It is that time again...time to purchase school supplies for the 2019-2020 school year.  Please click the link below or go to the PCY PTA website & click the supply box button to order your boxes.

If you are new to PCY, this is our annual School Supply Box Sale.  Every year the teachers compile a list of required school supplies for all the students in their grade.  A link to the 2019-2020 School Supply list will be posted on the PTA website at www.pcypta.org  Every student is responsible for providing all the items on the list that are required for their grade.  In an effort to make this easier on the parents, the PTA has an annual School Supply Box Sale which gives the parents the opportunity to purchase one box that contains all the school supplies required for a particular grade.  These boxes are ordered and paid for now and then delivered & picked up right before school starts in August. If you order a box you just pick up the box during one of the pick-up dates in August, then take the contents of the box to school on the first day of school & you are done.  You are NOT required to purchase a box through the sale & are welcome to purchase your supplies on our own. The sale is offered as a convenience that takes at least one thing off your never-ending list of things to do & is an easy way to make sure your child has the materials they need by the first day of school.

AGENDAS:  All 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will need an agenda.  Agendas are included in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade school supply boxes.  Agendas are available through PCY PTA. For those people that do not order the supply boxes, agendas will be available for purchase for $10 at the school supply pick-up dates in August.

TECH ITEMS:  There will be additional technology items required for grades 3-6.These additional tech items are not included in the standard school supply boxes but are available through the school supply box sale as add ons to the standard box.  You may also purchase these tech items without purchasing a supply box

You can either use PayPal to pay or use a credit card.  You do not need a PayPal account.

If you are not purchasing a School Supply Box, please print out the Supply List that can be found on the www.pcypta.org website starting next week so you know what items you will need to purchase for your child for next year.  This list will include the additional tech items.

The deadline for orders is May 20.

Thank you for supporting the PCY PTA by ordering your supplies through us.  We hope this will save you time and stress and you will love having everything in one box come the first day of school!

School supply box pick-up will be in August before school starts.  Check the PCY Calendar and Cougar Tracks starting in July for the pick-up dates and times.

Any questions please contact Jiffy Trubey at jiffnaround@yahoo.com.

     CAASPP Practice Tests
CAASPP testing will begin this week and many parents are curious about what the tests look like.  The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress website (CAASPP.org) provides practice tests for students to use to explore the tools and question types on the actual test in April of each year.

The LCUSD Tech Dept created a video guide to help families locate and take the practice tests that CAASPP provides.

     Cell Phones for Soldiers Donations
You can donate gently used cell phones for the Cell Phones for Soldiers organization in the PCY office.  The organization gives cell phones to soldiers so that are able to call home for free.  See flyer attached here for more details about the program.
More Mentor Families  Needed for New Family Program
Our amazing school needs more families willing to volunteer to be a Mentor to incoming New Families for our program.  It is a low commitment with high satisfaction to meet and greet a New Family to our very own PCY.  Our program attempts to match families in similar grades or one grade higher.  If interested, please email MikkiWeightman@yahoo.com with your name, email, student grade levels and if you speak a second language.  This program takes a lot of Mentors so please consider becoming one today!
     Colgate Recyling Program
PCY is entering a recycling contest!

Now through the end of school, please bring your old toothbrushes, used toothpaste tubes (including packaging) and empty dental floss containers to the PCY library. We will ship them out to TerraCycle, a company that recycles non-recyclables. They will recycle the old packaging into a new playground, and then award the playground made from the recycled materials to a children's hospital in the state that recycles the most during the promotion.

So not only will you help save the planet by recycling but you'll help a local children's hospital receive a brand-new playground made from recycled materials!

Just remember: all items should be used, not new. And dry! No wet toothbrushes or oozing toothpaste tubes! Bring them to the PCY Library starting Monday, April 22nd. And thanks for making a difference!
